Welcome to FLEX, the TNG interactive program to submit and modify
observing blocks of service/queuing and
ToO programs.
In order to set your observing blocks, you have to
create a few simple text (ASCII) files, containing the following information:
- coordinates, finder charts and other information concerning the
targets to be observed (the Catalog file)
- instrumental setup (exposure time, filter, grism, slit, etc.),
observational constraints (lunar phase, maximum seeing, sky
conditions, maximum airmass) and (optional) comments. Different files
have to be used depending on the chosen instrument and instrumental mode:
- LRS Ima: Dolores/LRS imaging
- LRS Spe: Dolores/LRS spectroscopy
- NICS Ima: NICS imaging (in this case you also need
Mosaics)
- NICS Spe: NICS spectroscopy (in this case you also need
Mosaics)
- SARG: high resolution spectroscopy with SARG
- OIG: OIG imaging
- files containing the finder charts listed in your catalog (Finder
Chart files)
- an optional file (or link to an URL) with extra information you
might want to provide to the staff observer (Info Files)
Instructions on how to create these files can be retrieved from the
Menu by clicking the menu Man button in correspondence
to the section you are interested in.
In order to start the submission or modification of your blocks
you first have to login the account corresponding to your program (click
the Go button in the Login Menu box).
For instruction on how to obtain username and password for your program,
